How do you deal with a workaholic? I am a workaholic myself, and I know quite a few workaholics. You need to love us and respect how we think and work. If you think you can work just 40 hours a week and get ahead, you had better think again. Most of the successful self-employed will think nothing of working over 80 hours a week to support their own business. The workaholic will think nothing of doing the same for almost any lucky company that employs them. When a workaholic has a day off from work, they will have a list of things that they must accomplish on their day off and they will work on that list with almost the same work attitude until everything on that list is done to their satisfaction.

Working over 80 hours a week is necessary at times, but should not occur EVERY week. A workaholic will lose track of time and will forget to come home until you have called them and reminded them how late they are working. A workaholic will have a list on paper or in their head of things that they wish to accomplish before they will consider leaving for the day. If they have not finished that list of items, they will continue working on them until they are satisfied. You can not easily change their mind and do not ever make them feel guilty about the number of hours that they work.

IF the workaholic has a problem, they will sometimes get absorbed in the problem excluding all else until the problem is solved, no matter how many hours that it requires. A workaholic may also get so tired that they will make mistakes that they have to correct the next day. A workaholic will make choices, and a few mistakes will be made, but the successful person will learn from their mistakes and not continue to repeat them. Here is a book that may help to understand the workaholic.

What is your opinion about spanking a child? The spanking as a punishment to a child has been found not to be as effective as once thought. The best method of punishment for a child should be based on the child. Most children love you and respect your judgement and you should punish the child by taking away something that the child likes for a pre-set amount of time. If the child can't watch TV, talk on the telephone, be with friends, go places because of something that they have done wrong, they will understand and learn from the punishment. The parent needs to be consistant with how they punish their children or one of the children will think that you love their sister or brother more than you love them.

What is Attention Deficit Disorder? Raising children is a challenge in itself, but once a child is diagnosed with ADD, many doctors, teachers, and parents want to throw drugs at this "problem". Many teachers force parents to get their "uncontrollable child" on Ritalin instead of dealing with the challenge of a bright child. You need to show love and respect for this child and devote time keeping this child busy doing interesting things that are also challenging. Drugs has become the easy answer to handle these situations instead of actually dealing with the problem. Have you paid any attention to the advertising on TV lately where drugs have been suggested as the solution to all of your problems? Have you also noticed all of the listed "possible side effects" when taking these drugs? Some of these drugs will modify the appetite of the child and this may create more problems.

A child that is hyperactive can be diagnosed with ADD and you need to examine the child's diet to make sure that he is not eating or drinking something that can be contribuiting to the "problem". Too much sugar in the diet can cause ADD symptoms. A child with a high IQ can also be diagnosed with ADD and putting the child on drugs is an "easy" answer. The pharmaceutical industry is making millions of dollars selling drugs and they spend a lot of money advertising those drugs. Just remember those possible "side effects". It should also be known, but the pharmaceutical industry is suppressing the fact that many of the kids that have been responsible for the shootings in schools have been taking these drugs for ADD!

The fewer drugs we take, the better off we will be. Here are three suggested books that will help you with this difficult decision.

In your opinion what is the biggest problem in America? I see a general decrease in people's lack of respect for themselves and for others. I continue to hear news stories about needless distruction of property. At the first Atlanta Braves home game of the season, someone slashed tires and keyed nearly forty cars in one of the parking lots at the stadium. I can remember when it was safe to leave the car parked in a parking lot and we left the keys in the car! We would come back out and the car would still be there! After we drove home, our house was still unlocked and everything was still in it. As a country we are heading toward worse situations.

I think that this lack of respect has been the cause of the higher divorce rate in this country. Another related problem is that many people have become very materialistic and think that they should get everything for nothing.

It is possible that this lack of respect is because more people do not have a strong religious upbringing that does teach the difference between right and wrong. This lack of respect is also causing us to lose the freedom of speech here in this country, and this concerns me a lot. Our ancestors fought with their lives for freedom of speech, and and we are slowly losing that freedom. Once we lose the freedom of speech, we will be in trouble as a country. Still, even with this happening, this is still one of the best countries in the world to live. People continue to die just trying to get here.

What is jury duty like? I have been called for jury duty four times, and have actually had to report twice and I ended up serving on two juries. You can be summoned to serve on several different kinds of juries. The most common ones are state or superior courts. The federal courts also call people for jury duty, but not as many people are called. There are standard juries, and grand juries. You hear grand juries mentioned on the news occasionally because they are the ones that that actually issue the ruling that a person should be tried for a crime.

You will generally be called for a week of jury duty starting on Monday. You better remember to bring something to read with you, because you may not be called to be on a selection list for a possible jury. If not called, you will usually be sent home by about noon or so. Once all of the different courts have enough potential jurors selected for the week, you will not have to report for the rest of the week, unless something unexpected happens.

The next step is the actual selection process to be on the jury. This can take a day or more for an important case. They may call forty (40) people to select the 6 or 12 jurors plus two or more alternate jurors. You will be asked several questions and the lawyers will decide if they want to have you on the jury by observing how you respond to the questions.

The first jury I was served on was a murder case in superior court. It was two teenage boys that had robbed a convience store and killed the person in the store at 3AM in the morning. The jury selection process started on Monday and the trial started Tuesday afternoon. Be prepaired to listen carefully because you may hear conflicting testomony and will have to decide who is really telling the truth. These two teens told their friends how they were going to do this crime, and after they did it, they bragged that they did it. A person was killed and they got less than $50 in cash. We started our deliberation on Friday afternoon and was sent home for the weekend and we finished on the next Monday and came back with guilty for both of the teens. Even though one of the teens did not actually pull the trigger, he was judged just as guilty as the person that pulled the trigger because they had discussed how the crime was to be done in advance. After we were dismissed, we found out that this was the second trial for these two teens for this robbery and murder and the first trial had resulted in a hung jury. The jury I was on had no difficulty coming up with the verdict of guilty. Those teens have already served their time and are back out on the streets by now. I hope they have learned their lesson.

The second jury I served on was a person that was accused of DUI and driving without proof of insurance. Since this was the second jury I had served on, I was elected forman of the Jury. As forman I was responsible for leading our discussion of the facts of the case and conduting the voting to convict the person. After we had given our guilty verdict, we stayed in the courtroom to listen to the sentience and found out that this was not the first time this person was guilty of DUI. He essentially got a slap on the hand and has probably been caught again. Jury selection for this trial started on Tuesday and the trial started on Wednesday. We were finished by late Friday.

It varies from court to court but you will get a fixed amount of money per each day that you show up for potential jury duty. Your company is required to let you serve on a jury, and most companies will pay you the differnece between your jury pay and your regular pay. The second time I was on a jury, I was able to schedule my work around the jury duty and get paid by both. Jury duty is an important part of the judicial system and I encourage you to welcome the opportunity to be a part of the system that guarantees everyone the opportunity of having a trial by jury. Not every country in the world gives the accused a fair trial.

People take advantage of me!People will only take advantage of you if you let them. If you do not have respect for yourself, you may let other people take advantage of you. Don't let them do it!! Learn to avoid being with these people because they are not your true friends. Some people live to take advantage of others whenever possible. You can not buy friends. Your true friends will be your friend without you having to spend any money on them at all. People will lie to you to make you feel sorry for them. Don't fall for these lies. If a person is your true friend they will not lie to you or take advantage of you.
Is flirting harmless? Flirting can cause problems and I would not call it harmless. Girls and boys like to flirt with each other and it also happens in adulthood. Some people just love the attention that flirting brings. Flirting can also make another person think that you are in love with them and read too much into what you are doing. So, go ahead and flirt, but also be aware that there can be consequences for your actions. I would also suggest that you not tell lies because lies can hurt people and you will lose the respect of others if you do lie.
